It’s been a great week for photographing rhino so here goes with another one.
We spent Monday afternoon photographing around one of pans in Madikwe. There were to rhino taking turns drinking from a shallow puddle as a third male hovered in the background. Most of us were going for tight close ups of the rhino drinking but as I looked up from my viewfinder I saw my next shot.
One of the things I look for when photographing wildlife is stories.
Interactions.
This photograph shows a moment at a waterhole which, to me at least, leads your gaze around the frame. First you focus on the rhino’s face and then from there you kinda jump between the reflection and the rhino in the background. And then perhaps back to the rhino’s face?
Wildlife photography is normally about zooming in.
Getting closer.
But don’t forget to keep an eye out for wider shots.
There are stories to be told!
Off to Rustenburg today so see ya tomorrow. (Yeah, it’s quite a busy week!)
