Shot as the sun was going down, I had to brace my camera against the vehicle’s door as I was already up to ISO 800 and shooting at only 1/200.  Quite happy with the resulting image.  I know I might shoot it a bit too often but I love getting in tight on my wildlife subjects.  Combined with removing all the colors it allows you to create an image that shows the true essence of the subject whether the visual message is power, tension or just plain beauty.  Being able to create images like this of real wild animals, and not animals in zoos or cages, is truly a great challenge and a huge privilege.  There is always something else to try and new images to create.

Tomorrow I will be going on leave for two weeks of holiday after quite a hectic six weeks.  Apart from a few portrait shoots and a two days away to indulge in some wildlife photography on my own terms I will be spending most of the time in and around Johannesburg.  The last couple of weeks have produced quite a few good wildlife images, even though content seems to include a huge amount lion pics, so I will be taking some time to work though these, upload new images to various stock sites and write a few tutorial type posts for the blog.  I will also be adding a lot of new links and blog reviews to the site so even though I won’t be in the bush for the next few weeks I will still be posting on the blog every weekday.  The only exception is that I will be taking off from the blog tomorrow, Friday and the weekend so I will be back on Monday with lots and lots of new images and blog posts.

I will be checking email so you can still get hold of me there or alternatively you can hook up with me on Facebook or Twitter.

Bye 4 now.  See ya next week! ;)

I got the chills from this picture. The black & white contrast matches brilliantly with the shot of the lioness. You have an extraordinary talent!

I am the co-owner of Hills of Africa Travel–we specialize in planning trips to Africa–and one of our upcoming trips is called Africa in Focus and it’s going to show visitors how to capture the beauty of Africa with a camera.

The wonderful thing about Africa is there are millions of fascinating objects, people, and places to photograph. From native dances to a sleeping lion, the possibilities are truly endless. You’re very lucky to have such an amazing talent for photography, especially in Africa!
