The Bravest Cub

The light was bad but the action was great!

WIldebeest Kill

Yesterday we sat watching a pride of lions tuck into what was left of a wildebeest kill – not much!   Now it is pretty well known that male lions do not like sharing and what made this specific sighting so great was the guts of one of the cubs in the pride.  Really brave little fellow!  We arrived at the sighting with the two dominant Kgala males feeding on the leftovers and tucked in between them one of the cubs.  This little guys has obviously not heard that the old boys get to eat what they want, when they want and he was in their fighting for his part of the meal.

Holding on

Holding on for dear life, this little guys had no intention of moving out the way even though dad was about to dish out some serious discipline.  The light was not as great as it could have been as a cloud moved in to block the sun, but we were fascinated by this brave little guy.

Here are a few of the images I got as his dad gives him a bit of a talking to.   Even though dad pulled a few pretty scary faces and beat him around once or twice, our brave little cub just pulled his ears flat and hung on!

Brave cub

I reckon by this time I would have been quite happy to let go and move on! :)

Brave Cub

In the end the little guy won out and in between the growls and occasional stare dad allowed him to stay.  Still kept his ears tucked in though.  One has to be safe – just in case! :)   Will watch this little guy in future!  Big heart!

As always I look forward to hearing from you!

Until next time.
